Edward F. Koneczny age 89, former Lake Twp Clerk died Wednesday morning, March 27, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He was born November 5, 1912 in Ziesing, WV and moved to Hamtramck at the age of three with his parents the late Frank and Julia (Smizenski) Koneczny.
On November 28, 1936, he was united in marriage to Irene S. Witkowski at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Detroit.
Eddie was employed at Chrysler Corp. for 38 years, retiring in 1971. That same year they moved to Lake Twp. He was elected Lake Twp. Clerk in 1974 and served that position until 1998, when he did not seek re-election.
He was a very active member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, Caseville Eagles, Caseville REACT club and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Irene; his son, Edward (Geraldine) Koneczny of Oscoda; five grandchildren, Matt, Mary lyn, Mitchell, Edward and Douglas and eight great grandchildren, Justin, Lucas, Lindsay, Joseph Kelsey, Lauren, Edward and Anne.
Preceding him in death were, his granddaughter, Michelle; a great grandson, Michael and two sisters, Genevieve Frankowski and Emily Madej.
A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, April 1, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Yaroch, pastor will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
An Eagles memorial service will be conducted 7 PM and the Knights of Columbus will conduct a rosary service 7:30 PM Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville where friends may call Sunday from 3 to 9 PM and at the church after 10 AM Monday.
