Edward A. Richards age 67 of Elkton died Friday, February 7, at his home following a probable heart attack.
He was born November 25, 1946 in Freemont, Ohio to Marvelline (Brolhost) Richards and the late Scott Richards. Ed and his family moved to Huron County near Pinnebog in 1961. He graduated from Laker High School in 1964 and went on to further his education at Michigan State. Then in 1966, he was called to serve his country in the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Michigan State and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. Shortly after graduation, he took a position with Occidental Chemical in Fairgrove and quickly moved up the ladder. He was transfer to the Bad Axe Plant and when the company merged with SoHiGro, he transferred to Marlette to manage a new plant there. A few years later, he transferred back to Bad Axe to manage that plant. In 1992, he developed health problems and had to retire. He still stayed busy farming and for the past twelve years in was employed at Valley Enterprises of Ubly, working the midnight shift, clocking out at his usual time Friday morning.
Ed attended to Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton and was the current president of the Elkton Lions Club. He had served as secretary for many years and was very active in the club. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed fishing and spending time with family.
Surviving are his life partner, Barb Buschlen; two children; three grandchildren; his mother, Marvelline Richards of Elkton; siblings, Dan (Karen) Richards of Republic, (UP) MI, Paul Richards of St. Paul, MN, Carolyn Erkfitz of New Brighton, MN, Bernice Richards of Elkton, Jim Richards of Pemberville, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his father and an infant son, Corey.
A memorial service will be conducted 4:00 PM Monday, February 10, at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Rev. William O’nan, pastor of the Community Wesleyan Church will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2 until the time of services Monday.
Memorials may be given to the Elkton Lions Club or the Michigan Heart Assn.
