Edward L. Schmidt of Caro, age 88, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Toni & Trish House in Auburn. Ed was born June 22, 1931 in Dearborn, the son of the late Lewis & Ida (Watkins) Schmidt. He took his first job as a boy with the Ford Motor Company in the mailroom before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1949. He was united in marriage with the former Nancy Wolfram shortly after his honorable discharge from the military in 1952. Ed owned and operated a Mobil Gas Station in Livonia for many years until he was approached by the Chrysler Corporation for a position they felt him to be uniquely qualified for. He retired from the company as one of the first executives in the Chrysler Service Contract division. Ed loved to work, and even in retirement continued consulting for the automotive marketing firm, Creative Industries. He also consulted for others in the auto and insurance industries until only a few years ago. Never one to sit still, Ed enjoyed cooking, trap shooting, golfing, and spending over ten years in Tampa, Florida during the winter months. In his earlier life, he was a stock car racer and loved anything with a combustion engine, including boats, motorcycles, and airplanes. Ed leaves behind his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Nancy Schmidt of Caro; three children, Toni (Tom) Farkas of Oxford, Lori (Bill) Graves of Vassar, Chuck (Sherry) Schmidt of Perry; five grandchildren, Tiffany Dickinson, Deanna Farkas, Jennifer Buchowski, Tommy Farkas, and Jacki Schmidt; one brother, George (Patricia) Schmidt of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Ed's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services have been planned. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Schmidt Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Nancy Schmidt, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723.
