Edward J. “Adam” Swider, age 87, of Port Austin, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at his home.
Adam was born August 7, 1922 in Clymer, Pennsylvania to the late Telford and Eva (Markowicz) Swider. The family moved to Detroit while Adam was in school. He graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1940. He served in the US Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired from Borg-Warner as a mechanic in 1985. In 1986 he and his brother and sister moved to Port Austin. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and had been involved in the Boy Scouts as a troop leader in Hamtramck. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and working on machines.
Surviving is his brother Lou of Port Austin, sisters Cecilia (Tom) O’Toole of Georgia and Maryann Cunningham of Texas; and 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Florence.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 5th at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew Booms presiding. Military honors will be by the Caseville American Legion.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to the mass at church on Monday. There will be a scripture service at 6:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the St. Roch Building Fund or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
