Edwin R. Carpenter

Edwin R. Carpenter of Caro, age 74, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born June 26, 1943 in Flint, the son of the late Charles and Saloma (Cissna) Carpenter, and was a 1961 graduate of Birch Run High School. He was united in marriage with the former Sandra (Storm) Romain on December 30, 1983 at the Caro United Methodist Church, and she survives him. Ed worked for eighteen years for GM Flint before driving truck for North American Van Lines for five years, and then worked eighteen years with Crete Carrier, retiring in 2002. Ed raced drag cars and Sandy was his pit crew. He bought and sold many cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats. Ed was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, singing, and playing the guitar. He had been a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years, Sandy Carpenter of Caro; three children and their spouses, Edwin, Jr. & Rhonda Carpenter, Steven C. & Monica Carpenter, Kim & Matt Adams; Sandy's children, Lance & Lourdes Romain, Dawn Cloutier, Shane Romain; grandchildren, Brent & Sidney Carpenter, Lauren & Austin Broussard, Ashley & Robert Schmidt, Luke Carpenter, Ashley Cloutier, Robert Cloutier, Amanda Romain, Nicole Romain, Logen Romain, Megan Romain, Makaela Cloutier, Nikolas Cloutier; great-grandchildren, Charlie Carpenter, Brent Leigh Carpenter, Colt Broussard, Dahlia Schmidt, Rylie Cloutier; one brother and sister-in-law, Bennie & Pat Bolsar; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Frank & Karen Storm, Jim & Evie Storm; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by one son, Scott Carpenter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Anthony Tomasino officiating. Burial will follow at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro, with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Caro American Legion Post #7. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the donor's favorite charity.
