Edwin F. Licht, age 96, passed away on Sunday, January 05, 2014.
He was born on April 6, 1917 in Oliver Township, Huron County, Michigan, at the home of his parents, Fred and Marie (Bergman) Licht.
He graduated from Elkton High School in 1936. On April 25, 1942, he married Martha Rathke. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage before she joined her Lord on March 13, 2007. They made their home on a farm near Pigeon where they raised their five children.
Edwin was a life long farmer who remembered farming with horses. In addition to full time farming, he worked for Co-Op Elevator, Thumb Truck Equipment and Berne Enterprises. Edwin was a faithful member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He sang in the church choir, played in the band, was a former member of church council and the school board and served in many other ways. Most important of all, he served his Lord and Savior every day of his life as a faithful husband and a loving Christian example to his children. He provided for his family without ever working on a Sunday.
Edwin is survived by five children, Betty (Eugene) Champagne, Margaret (Tony) Alfaro, Jeanette Flores, Carol (James) Widney and James (Susan) Licht; grandchildren, Gina, Manuel, Anna, Mary, Nathaniel, Dan, Jimmy, Jeremy and Katie: great-grandchildren, Leah, Katrina and Madison and three step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Gertrude Stecker and Dorothy Ruby, a brother, Raymond Licht and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, by an infant son and daughter (twins) Donald and Marilyn, and one sister Frieda Heintz.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Cross Lutheran Church, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke, pastor officiating. Burial will be at Cross Lutheran Church Cemetery.
