Edwin Lee Steckley, age 91 of Bay Port, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Hearts Faith, Bad Axe.
Born in Fairhaven Township on July 15, 1919 to Sol and Rozetta (Gunden) Steckley, he was a lifelong member of the Pigeon River Mennonite Church, Pigeon. On April 23, 1944 he and Olivia White were married at the West Union Church in Parnell, Iowa. Olivia preceded him in death on November 27, 2004.
Ed farmed throughout his lifetime. He loved whistling, and he loved his airplane.
He is survived by his five children: Diane (Paul) Cleeves of Comins, Charlotte Masen of Goodrich, Sheldon Steckley of Georgia, and William Steckley and Sherl Steckley, both of Florida. He also is survived by seven grandchildren: Tanis, Brandon, Travis, Megan, Courtney, Shane, and Leticia; and six great-grandchildren: Joshua, Amber, Jacob, Olivia, Ava, and Robyn. Preceding him in death were a brother Loren and a sister Lydia Mayer.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church with Rev. Alvin Yoder, pastor, officiating.
