Edythe U Stirrett, age 86 of Bad Axe formerly of Elkton died Tuesday evening, June 13, at Huron Medical Center following an apparent heart attack.
She was born August 3, 1930 in Flint at the home of her parents the late Martin and Edythe (Hazard) Thomas. Edythe moved to Elkton with her family in 1945 and graduated from Elkton High School in 1948.
On August 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gordon H Stirrett at the Elkton Methodist Church and made their home in Elkton. He preceded her in death September 12, 2012.
Edythe was employed as a secretary at Thumme Insurance for five years and then Laker High School from the time it opened to 1966. From there, she was employed at the Elkton Co-op Farm Produce Company 21 years. Prior to retiring in 1993, she was employed at Ajax Stamp in Caseville.
Edythe was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, where she had been very active in church activities including putting on funeral lunches, a life member of the Order of Eastern (OES); honorary life member of the OES of Michigan, past member of the Grand Family and enjoyed quilting and tending her flowers.
Surviving are her son, Randy (Nila) Stirrett of Elkton; grandson, Kenneth of Moody, TX; brother, Charles Thomas of Temperance; brother-in-law, Edsel (Chris) Sharrow of Traverse City and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her in-laws, Marion Thomas, Idora Sharrow, Gabe and Florence Reggio and Arnold and Irene Stirrett.
Edythe requested no public visitation or services. Private services will be conducted for the family. Memorials may be given to the Elkton United Methodist Church or the Gordon H Stirrett Masonic Scholarship Fund, PO Box 644, Pigeon, MI 48755, given to a Laker, USA and Caseville student each year.
