Elaine L. Schafer, age 80 of Elkton passed away Sunday evening, February 15, surrounded by her family after a very long and courageous battle with illness.
She was born October 4, 1934, in Bad Axe to the late Kenneth and Lenora (Karg) Hill and grew up in Bad Axe.
On May 7, 1955, she was united in marriage to Donald Schafer at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe. They made their home in Elkton, where they raised five children.
Elaine had worked at Hubbard Hospital and at Laker High School as a cook. She then became a stay at home wife and mother, also babysitting for friends and neighbors. She had an amazing amount of faith, always turning toward God for strength and guidance.
Elaine was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elkton. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and absolutely loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of almost 60 years, Don; four children, Debora (Dave) Jaworski of Bad Axe, Dianne Schafer of Elkton, Don (Patty) Schafer of Mt Pleasant and Dawn Schafer of Elkton and her finance’ Jeff Schmidt; grandchildren, Kelly (Ryan) Errer, Chad (Kelly) Jaworski, Adam Jaworski , Samantha (Matthew) Jezierski, Garrett(friend, Abby Jones) Schafer, Grant, Alex and Noah Schafer and Kimberly Rowe, Janelle, Alexia, Garrett and Mason Schmidt; sister-in-law, Shirley Hill of Caseville and brother-in-law, Bob (Shelia) Schafer of Elkton; nephew, Ken (Kim) Hill and niece, Andrea (Billy) Murawski and children, Katelyn, Molly, Mitchell, Matthew and Ellen.
Preceding her in death was a son, David Schafer and a brother, Ken Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, February 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. Rev. Rodney Schwab, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends and family may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Wednesday and at the church after 10 AM Thursday.
Memorials may be given to her church or the donor’s choice
