Eleanore Magiera

Eleanore Magiera of Caro, age 84, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at MediLodge of Yale, following a lingering illness. Eleanore was born October 15, 1930 in Wyandotte, the daughter of the late John & Martha (Malinowski) Bobrowski. She graduated from Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Wyandotte with the class of 1948. She was to meet Frank C. Magiera at a fish fry soon after and finally succumbed to his persistence, agreeing to a date. Little could she predict that a rocky first date of square dancing would turn into fifty-four years of marriage, but on September 15, 1951, the couple wed in Wyandotte. Eleanore worked as a proofreader for the Detroit News before moving to Caro to raise her two children and operate the Magiera Family Farm with Frank. As the children aged, she began work at Woolworth's in Caro in the apparel department, then Larry's TV which later became Radio Shack. Eleanore also had a great love of children, and spent many years babysitting. She was immensely proud of her Polish heritage and loved Polkas. A member of the Polka Hall of Fame, Eleanore promoted dances all over the Midwest and East Coast. She was also a member of the Polish American Club in Caro, served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Michigan Polka Boosters, and hosted a Saturday morning Polka show on a thumb-area AM radio station. Left to cherish her memory are two children, Cheryl Jasina of Melvin, John Magiera of Caro; brother- and sisters-in-law, Leo & Dorothy Yakes of North Branch, Betty Magiera of Frankenmuth, Wanda Mylnarski of Novi; and many nieces and nephews. Eleanore was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 2006; two brothers and their spouses, Clarence & Hattie Bobrowski, John & Virginia Bobrowski; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law. In keeping with Eleanore's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Yale at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
