Elizabeth J. “Betty” Komonowski age 89, of Elkton, died Tuesday evening, March 18, at Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe.
She was born November 27, 1924 in Detroit at the home of her parents, the late William and Victoria (Pollard) Veal and grew up in the Detroit area.
While working at Kern’s Department Store in Detroit, she met John Komonowski who was also employed there. They married June 28, 1947 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach and lived there until moving to Elkton in 1960 to raise their family.
Betty was employed at the Laker School System as a custodian for 19 years, retiring in 1985. She is a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and enjoyed working word search puzzles.
Surviving are her husband, John; three children, Connie (Richard) Pachla of Cass City, Joseph Komonowski of Elkton and Robert Komonowski of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Stacey(Todd) Bliss and Kellie (Leroy) Beecher; great grandchildren, Zachary, Rylee and Jackson; in-laws, Pat Veal and Bernice Jelin; niece, Debbie Oglinski; nephews, Bill Veal and Gary Jelin and very special friend, Penny.
Preceding her in death were, brothers, Tom Veal and William Veal, killed in WW II; brother-in-law, Chester Jelin and niece, Diane Jelin.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon, where a rosary service will began at 10:00 AM and visitation until the time of service . Burial will be in the in the church cemetery. Memorial gifts may be directed the family discretionary fund and words of condolence may be shared at www.cfcelkton.com.
