Elizabeth “Betty” (Lapratt) Suranye

Elizabeth “Betty” (LaPratt) Suranye of Caro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the age of 92. Betty was born July 29, 1931 in Caro to the late Alexander and Pauline (Jacques) LaPratt, and was the oldest daughter of eighteen children. On June 21, 1952, Betty was united in marriage with Adolph Suranye and the couple was blessed with ten children. Adolph provided Betty with a new life, filled with love and support. In her later years, Betty courageously battled dementia at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Even in the midst of her condition, her nurturing spirit shone through. She always believed she had a baby to care for, a testament to her lifelong role as a mother. Betty was known for her robust personality; she stood up for what she believed in and was never too shy to voice her opinion. Her friends cherished her for the joy and laughter she brought to their lives, always ready to have a good time. She retired as a sample carrier for Michigan Sugar in Caro and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her home was a bustling hub of activity, always filled with children, friends, and family. Her grandchildren have fond memories of visiting her house, playing at the playground, and admiring the flowers and trinkets that adorned her home. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed gardening and canning and she delighted in seasonal celebrations, especially looking at Christmas lights and the annual Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival. Betty’s legacy is one of strength, unyielding spirit, and unconditional love and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her children, Sharon Norrington, Michelle (Mark) Haney, Goldie Veronica Mooney, Patricia (Michael) Brown, Corrine Dean, Naida (Darwin) Rushlo, Leticia (David) Sutter; twenty-five grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Jan Suranye. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Suranye; sons, David and Lewis Suranye; daughter, Marilyn Aberman; and sons-in-law, Dierck Dean and George Aberman.
