Elizabeth B. Walker, age 72, of Port Austin died Friday morning, December 7, at her daughter's home near Bad Axe while under hospice care.
She was born June 28, 1935 in Saginaw to the late Arthur and Marie (Trayer) Goodside.
On June 20, 1953, she was united in marriage to Melvin L. Walker. They lived and raised their family in Elkton and moved to Pigeon in 1979. Melvin preceded her in death March 6, 1991.
In 1975, she graduated from SCCCC School of nursing as an LPN and began working at Huron Memorial Hospital in substance abuse and OB often making tiny clothes for the premature infants. Liz retired in 1994 and moved to Port Austin that same year. She continued working part time for a while, at Errer Greenhouse, Bad Axe and also at the Bank Restaurant, Port Austin.
Liz was a very talented person, a writer of short stories and poetry. She was also a very good artist, doing many beautiful paintings and drawings. She enjoyed maritime stories and lore; gardening both vegetable and flowers and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Liz was a member of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene and the Thumb Arts Guild.
Surviving are six children, Debra (Donald) Stroud of Bad Axe, Phillip (Badria) Walker of Chelsea, Keith (Lola) Walker of Pigeon, Veniece (Robert) Mosey of Bad Axe, Denis Walker of Port Austin and Melanie (Mark) Remillard of Louisville, OH; nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two sisters, Rose Sanburn of Saginaw and Pat (Bruce) Griffith of Roscommon; two sisters-in-law, Marlene Goodside of Birchrun and Allene and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Walker of Mt Pleasant.
Preceding her in death is her brother, Arthur "Butch" Goodside, two brothers-in-law, Bill Walker and Howard Sanburn and sister-in-law, Cyndi Walker.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, December 15, at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. William Thorn, pastor of Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Friends may call at the Wesleyan Church, Saturday after 1:00 PM.
