Ella Cantu Avalos, 81 of Pigeon, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw.
Born in Hebbronville, Texas on March 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Guadalupe and Juanita (Navarro) Cantu. On October 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Apolonio Antonio Avalos in Hebbronville. The couple had been married 55 years when Apolonio passed away October 26, 2002.
Ella was a homemaker throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed watching softball. She dearly loved all of her family; she had a heart of gold, and worried about everyone as well as prayed for everyone. She expected to speak to her children everyday. Everyone loved Ella's tortillas. She was always feeding her family and friends first, and sent them home with the leftovers.
Ella was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. She loved her church and church family, and was very proud when her family would take up two pews on a Sunday morning.
She is survived by eight children: Mary (Armondo) Guardian of Pigeon, Jesse (Mary) Avalos of Pigeon, Juan (Debbie) Avalos of Gagetown, Mary (Gene) Schulze of Pigeon, Joe (Sylvia) Avalos of Pigeon, Joel (Lisa) Avalos of Grayling, Esther (Jeff) Hill of Pigeon, and Raul Avalos of Pigeon; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ella is preceded in death by a son, Apolonio Antonio "Chino" Avalos, Jr., daughter, Juanita Avalos; brothers, Emilo and Elias; and sisters, Esther, Elisa, Eva, and Elena.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon, with Rev. John K. Benissan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery.
