Ellen Mae Volz

Ellen Mae Volz , age 98, of Sebewaing, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Winter Village Assisted Living in Frankenmuth.

Ellen was born February 26, 1921, in Sebewaing, to Arthur John Michael Rummel and Amanda Louise Ziegler-Rummel. After graduating from high school, she attended Bay City Business College for 2 years. She then married Edward Alfred Volz on March 17, 1946 in Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1984. She worked as an Executive Secretary at Dow Chemical in Midland a few years, then later with her husband Bud, they purchased the store and owned and operated Rummel's Park & Shop in Sebewaing. Ellen was a member of the Mary Martha Guild, Couples Club, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the church choir. She enjoyed playing the clarinet and piano, telling stories, visiting with the shut-ins, and sending cards to everyone for all occasions. She was known by her friends as a kind and sincere woman.

Ellen loved telling stories of her escapades with her cousins of the "Rummel Clan". Throughout her life she enjoyed the many visits from her favorite cousin, Walt Rummel.

Her mom, whom she was especially close to, would organize tea parties with her female cousins, which   probably led to the idea later in life to her opening a bed and breakfast named, Mandi's B & B, in honor of her mother.

Her mother also would sew all the clothes she wore to participate in the Operetta's, organized by Mr. Scheiwe. He also would organize outings for his students, and one included a trip to the U.P. of Michigan sitting on wooden benches on the back of a farm truck.

As of late, she enjoyed being with her great grandchildren, Lydia and Jameson, going to apple orchards, coloring Easter eggs, and making Christmas memories.

She appreciated being so warmly welcomed by her granddaughter's husband's family. She was so looking forward to meeting her newest grandson, Tyler, and making memories with him as well.

Kurt and Evelyn and family, besides their visits, kept her up on family news with many letters and phone calls of love and encouragement.

Her nieces and nephews and their children, held a warm spot in her heart. They were always there to lend a helping hand and to make sure she was well taken care of.

She appreciated so much the relationships she formed with her healthcare workers and their staff at her assisted living home in Frankenmuth. She shared her stories with them, sang songs in German, and had a unique ability to keep them on their toes.

Ellen was always a people person, sharing her love and respect with Christ and His message of hope and salvation.

Ellen is survived by her children: Lee Ann (Jean-Marc) Isaaz of Chelsea and Kurt (Evelyn) Volz of Monmouth, IL; grandchildren: Claire Koons married to Scott of Lakewood, Ohio and their children: Lydia and Jameson Koons, Anne-Marie Isaaz of Clermont-Ferrand, France, Nathan Volz and wife Joey of Santa Monica, CA and their child, Tyler, Kathleen Bradley-Volz and wife Angela of Monmouth, IL, Laura Thirtyacre and her husband Kirk of   Bloomington, IL, and Caitlin McIntyre and husband Ethan of Beardstown, IL; and dear friend, Betsy Hackworth married to Larry of Chelsea; and several dear friends in Sebewaing: Joan Walz, Fran Davis, Susan Gremel, Kathy Millerwise, Mary Millerwise, Neva Finkbeiner, Janet Beers, Vera Wrobleski, Mary Bauer and Marlene Mueller.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant sister, Margaret Lydia Rummel.

Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2020 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, from 3-7pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Music Fund, Organ Fund or Radio Mission Fund.
