Elmer Lewis Carpenter, age 89, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Saginaw Veterans Hospital. He was born on November 12, 1912 in Caro, and was a lifelong resident. Elmer attended school in Caro and served in the United States Army during World War II. Upon his return from the service, he went to work for L.E. Meyers clearing right-of-ways for high line construction until his retirement. Elmer held a life membership with the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. He enjoyed hound dogs, rabbit hunting, raising chickens and selling eggs, as well as spending much of his life with his sister. He is survived by his siblings, Lucille (Bud) Hansen of Madison Heights and Richard Kerst of Roseville; two nieces, Agnes Houghteling of Birch Run and Joan (Donald) Walker of South Carolina; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Ellen Irene Emmons. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Chris Taylor facilitating. Burial will be at Wahjamega Cemetery under the auspices of Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
