Elmer A Dietzel age 71 of Elkton died Sunday afternoon January 31, at his home while under hospice care.

He was born July 27, 1944, in Saginaw to the late Elmer and Ruth (Gohsman) Dietzel grew up in the Vassar area. Elmer graduated from Vassar High in 1962 and after two years at Central Michigan University, he enlisted in the US Air Force.

On March 3, 1979, he was united in marriage to Cindy Davis at St. George Catholic Church, Saginaw.

Elmer was employed with Saginaw Steering Gear and Chevrolet Transmission for 14 years. In 1980, he moved to California and worked at Lockheed Martin Missile and Space Division on top secret projects. He returned to Michigan in 1996, living in Caseville and working for US Mfg. In 1999, he moved to Elkton and was with Tower Automotive until retiring in 2009 for health reasons.

He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, OLPH Parish, Pigeon having served on the parish council and as a lector, Knights of Columbus and very active with and past president of the Elkton Lions Club. Elmer had also served on the Elkton Village Council several years and had been active in his community in so many ways.

Surviving are his wife, Cindy; children, Michael (Richard Hasting) Dietzel of New London, CN, Jeffrey (Lydia) Dietzel of Midland, TX, Todd (Jennifer) Dietzel of Sacramento, CA, Heather Loree of Bay City and Mellissa (David) Guster of Elkton; grandchildren, Lady, Ashley, Michelle, Todd Jr, Ethan, Amber, Lance and one on the way; siblings, Dorthy (Gary) Hakes, Linda (Dan) Florey and Edwin (Cynthia) Dietzel; his brother-in-law, Norm Davis and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, February 5, at St. Francis Catholic Church, OLPH, Pigeon. Rev. Fr. Robert Pare’ pastor will officiate with burial and military honors in the church cemetery.

Friends and family may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Thursday and at the church after 10 AM Friday.
