Elmer J. Hallitt age 86, of Elkton, died Tuesday morning, February 14, at his home.
He was born February 4, 1926 at the home of his parents the late Sprague and Minnie (Rinnert) Hallitt in Meade Twp. Elmer lived in Elkton almost all of his life.
In January of 1961, he married Irene Engelhardt in Battle Creek. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Elmer started working at Active Industries in 1949, and was call to serve his country his country in the army during the Korean War. When he returned he continued working at Active until retiring in April of 1988, retiring with 39 years at the plant.
On June 18, 2005, he married Donna J. Thompson at the Farver Road Baptist Church.
He was a faithful attender of the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton and a life member of the Cass City VFW Post. Elmer will be remembered for spreading the word of the Lord during parades throughout the Thumb in his little gray car playing gospel music.
Surviving are his wife, Donna; step children, Gordon Kilbourn of Wales, Sharon (Clarence) Minor and Phyllis Kilbourn both of Fort Mills, SC, Terry (Linda) Cortimilia of Reese, Debbie Ashley of Cass City, Dan (Missy) Cortimilia of Carsonville, Jerry (Shan) Cortimilia of Cedar Rapids, IA, Bob Cortimilia of Cedar Rapids, IA and Mary Cortimilia of Caro 17 step grandchildren; many step great grandchildren and a sister, Marie (Ken) White of Pinnebog.
Preceding him in death was two step daughters, Darlene Cortimilia and Shirley Birkheimer; two brothers, Roy and Clayton Hallitt and a sister, Jane Frank.
A memorial service will conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, February 25 at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. William O’nan, pastor will officiate with burial next to his first wife in Novesta Twp. Cemetery, Cass City.
Memorials may be given to the Huron Youth Center.
