Elmer Lewis

Elmer Lewis, age 87, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, following a period of declining health. Elmer Lewis was born May 11, 1925 in Tuscola County, the son of the late William and Luella (Surine) Lewis. He worked on the family farm and then served in the US Army during WWII. On November 25, 1947 he married the former Norma Shaw. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2004. Upon his return from the service he returned to the farm and went to work at the Caro State Hospital for thirty years. In 1984 they moved to Florida for many years full time and then after Normas death in six month increments. On November 21, 2004 he was united in marriage to the former Priscilla (Rhodes) Bell. Elmer was a fisherman, gardener, and enjoyed socializing as well as worshipping. He was a member of the Colling Church of the Nazarene and with his first wife went on numerous missionary trips. His church was a very large part of his life. Elmer is survived by his wife, Priscilla; five children and spouses, Linda Hodder of Caro, Mark and Mary Lewis of Unionville, Peggy Lewis and Mike Jones of Auburn, Angela Vaughan of Cadillac, Paul and Tawnya Lewis of Port Washington, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Doris Hendricks of Decker, Fonda Bennett of Florida, and Floyd Lewis of Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Deese, and a son-in-law, Timothy Vaughan, Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Colling Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jerry Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro, with military honors afforded by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Mark Lewis, 205 W.
