Elmer E. Shope, age 91, of Sebewaing, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Cass City. Elmer was born February 23, 1922 in Scioto Furnace, Ohio, the son of George and Louisa (Delawder) Shope.
Elmer was a self employed carpenter and painter. He also worked in the maintenance department at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He served in the U.S Army, and is a WWII veteran and was awarded a purple heart. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and traveling. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Kilmanagh.
Elmer is survived by his children: Kay (Leroy) Lindsey and Nancy (Richard) Greer; his step children: Mary Lou (John) Temple, Carol Ann (Jim) Attwood and Janet (Todd) Vandiver; his siblings: Eloise (Howard) Dorsch, Dorothy Heider and Lee (Bonnie) Shope; step daughter-in-law, Linda Menzel; sister-in-law, Darlene Shope; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his three wives: Garnet Shope, Herta Shope and Marie Menzel; his son, Elmer E. Shope; step son, Tom Menzel; 2 daughter-in-laws: Judy Shope and Carol Shope; brothers Earl Shope and Frank Shope: and brother-in law, Bill Heider.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-8pm.
The funeral service will be Friday, June 14, 2013 at the funeral home. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Rev. Dr. Leroy E. Lindsey, Jr. will be officiating.
Burial will be at Grandlawn Cemetery in Pigeon.
