Elsie F. Sturm, age 89 of Pigeon, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Country Gardens in Pigeon, Michigan.
She was born June 23, 1923 in Oliver Township, daughter of the late Henry and Marie (Fluegge) Trost of Elkton, Michigan.
Elsie attended Cross Lutheran School and Elkton High School. After graduating from high school, she worked at Hubbard State Bank in Elkton. On December 17, 1945 she married Vincent E. Sturm in Toledo, Ohio, and they settled on what is still the family farm at 6510 Pigeon Road. Elsie was always interested in farming and spent countless hours watching the day-to-day operations in the fields. She was a faithful and active member of Cross Lutheran Church. Elsie was a member of the Cross Lutheran Women of the Church and was in charge of funeral meal planning for 47 years at Cross. She especially liked to sew, bake her famous tarts, play cards, and she loved to spend time with her family.
Surviving are her two sons, Terry (June) Sturm of Pigeon and Jack (Pam) Sturm of Pigeon; one daughter, Jean Sturm of Pigeon; five grandchildren: Robin Sturm, Kimberly Sturm, Chad (Lisa) Sturm, Jason (Leslie) Sturm, and Kevin (Erica) Sturm; five great-grandchildren: Isaac, Adison, and Ezra Sturm, Nicklaus Sturm, and Emily Sturm; one sister, Lydia Decker of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Vincent E. Sturm; one sister, Meta Farver; and two brothers, Ervin Trost and Otto Trost.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund.
