Emil Walter Robert Nieschulz, age 96 of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, February 24 at Timberline Lodge, Caro.
He was born in Enid, Oklahoma on February 18, 1920, son of Herman and Martha (Gallandt) Nieschulz, and moved to Michigan in 1927. During WWII he served in Asia with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a staff sergeant. He and Margaret Emma Volz were united in marriage on December 19, 1952 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Berne (Pigeon).
Mr. Nieschulz worked as a Master Plumber for Shetler Plumbing and Heating. He enjoyed blacksmithing, tinkering, fixing things, and repairing items for his children. He liked trimming his neighbor's apple trees so he could take the apples in the fall to make apple cider from his apple press. He enjoyed carving birds and exhibiting them at the Pigeon Library. He also loved fishing with Margaret throughout the years. He was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Nieschulz (Marilyn Neuendorf) of Bay City, James (Kay) Nieschulz of Pigeon; a daughter Debra (Kim) Bitzer of Gagetown; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and one sibling, Jane Evelyn Nieschulz-Bell of Lapeer. He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Emma Nieschulz on December 25, 2004; and one son Wayne Douglas Nieschulz on December 7, 2002; his parents, Herman and Martha Nieschulz; and siblings: Esther Christina Nieschulz, Clarence Nieschulz, Elmer Edlo Fredrick Nieschulz, Arvilla Marie Nieschulz-Heck, Gerhardt Gallandt Frank Nieschulz and Lyle Clare Herman Nieschulz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Berne, with Rev. James A. Gorsegner, pastor, officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church or charity of donor's choice.
