Emilie Balk

Emilie Balk, age 90, of Sebewaing, passed away peacefully Friday, May 13, 2011 at her home.

Emilie was born July 9, 1920 in Nuerenberg, Germany. She married Johann "John" Balk December 13, 1943 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Germany. Before she came to America she was a seamstress. In 1954 John, Emilie, and their two girls moved to Saginaw, and, in October 1956, to Sebewaing. She and her husband owned and operated Balks Bakery in Sebewaing from 1956 to 1986. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid at the church.

Emilie is the beloved wife of the late Johann "John" Balk. Loving mother of Margit (John) Dyer and the late Ursula Taylor. Proud grandmother of Steven Taylor, Troy Taylor, Tina (Tony) Gage, Brian Dyer, Mike Dyer, and the late Jeffrey Dyer. Great grandmother of Christina, Ty, Zachery, Weiland, Garrison, Sean, and the late Ethan Dyer. Great great grandmother to one. Dear aunt of Hannlore and Jim Thompson and Ruth Jeske.

Visitation Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 3-8pm.

Funeral service Monday, May 16, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Additional visiting will be at the church from 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Sebewaing.
