Emma Leah Ewald, longtime resident of Unionville and recently of Sheffield Bay Assisted Living in Bay City, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Covenant Health Care - Harrison in Saginaw at the age of 91. Emma was born February 6, 1926, at the family home in Akron, the daughter of the late John & Sophia (Krause) Fischer. She was united in marriage with Donald Ewald on November 6, 1943, in Sebewaing, and he preceded her in death on November 5, 2015, after nearly seventy-two years together. Emma worked as a hairdresser in downtown Caro for many years, first with her sister, Bev, at The Style Shop, and later at Beauty by I. In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, bowling, crosswords, and playing cards. Emma will also be remembered as a fervent reader and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a dear friend, inspiration, and mentor to the countless people blessed to know her. Left to cherish her memory are one daughter and her husband, Kay & Bill Jordan of Bay City; three grandchildren and their spouses, Michele & Jerry Ringle of Riverdale, Katherine Montei of Oxford, Charles & Carolyn Montei of Holt; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Gates, Averie Manke, and Isla Montei; one brother and his wife, Dwayne & Mary Lou Fischer of Bay City; one sister-in-law, Betty Eckfeld of Unionville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Emma was preceded in death by two children, infant Donald Lee Ewald and Sheryl Ann Ward; one grandson, James Ward II; and ten siblings. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at Columbia Township Cemetery on Graf Road in Unionville. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Tuscola County Imagination Library or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
