Emma Higgins

Emma L. Higgins, age 98, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Tendercare of Cass City. She was born July 31, 1913 in Puxico, Missouri, the daughter of the late Buck and Minnie (Grey) Buckhanan. Emma came to Pontiac as a young lady and met to Claude V. Higgins, whom she married in the early 1930s. Claude preceded her in death on September 19, 1991. Emma was employed as a housekeeper at Pontiac General Hospital and after her retirement, she moved from Pontiac to the Caro area in 1977 to be close to her family. Emma was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith and most recently attended Great Lakes Baptist Church in Akron. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, Bible study, and crossword puzzles. Surviving Emma is a Daughter-In-Law, Sharon Couch of Caro; four grandchildren, Angela (Jeff) Roach of Chesterfield Township, Kimberly (William) Freeman of Fairgrove, M. Shawn Higgins of Chesapeake, Virginia and Tracey Norrington of Toledo, Ohio; fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. There will be no public services and a private committal took place at Perry Mount Park Cemetery.
