Emma Riemenschneider

Emma Riemenschneider, age 94 of Pigeon, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Home Sweet Home Assisted Living in Pigeon.
Born in Arickaree, Colorado on August 1, 1916, Emma was the daughter of the late Aaron and Catharine (Schwartzentruber) Ruby, and graduated from Capital Hill School in Washington County, Colorado. She was baptized at Thurman Mennonite Church. In November, 1936 she was married to Aaron Riemenschneider in Colorado, and he died in January, 1941.
Emma moved to Pigeon during the Depression in 1937 to work for John Kennel. She worked for Shetler Funeral Home in the late 1940's-1950's, and cooked at the old Scheurer Hospital in the 1950's. She retired from the new Scheurer Hospital in 1974.
Emma took care of the house, cooking, canning, and caring for her sister Marie, who took care of the garden and the farm animals. She loved sewing, crocheting, and quilting, especially at church. Emma was a member of the Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon, and also a member of the Friendship Circle at the church.
She is survived by a brother, Joe (Helen) Ruby of Pigeon; a sister, Edith (Leon) Swartzendruber of Pigeon; six nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ruby of Oregon. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Ruby and a brother, Walter Ruby.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Rev. Scot Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Michigan Avenue Mennonite Cemetery.
Memorials for Emma are suggested to Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church or the Gideons.

Monday, July 25 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday, July 26 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.
