Emma Velma Ross, age 92, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Bennetts Touch of Home in Caro, following a period of declining health. Emma was born December 28, 1918 in Wells Township in the family farmhouse on Froede Road to Edward F. & Rosa E. (Curry) Froede, and was a lifelong area resident. Following graduation from Kingston High School with the class of 1937, she went on to Tuscola County Normal in Caro. Emma began her working career as a teacher at Four Towns Country School and then East Dayton Country School before leaving to care for her family. She was united in marriage with Albert G. Ross on August 18, 1941 in Akron. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1984. As their five children grew, Emma began work at the Caro Regional Center in 1962, first in housekeeping and later in the sewing room, retiring on January 19, 1979. During her free time, Emma was an avid bowler. She also was a member of the Dayton Center Church, the Michigan State Employees Retirement Association, the Wells-Dayton Farmers Club and the Tuscola County Normal Graduates Club. Emma enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and could often be heard singing her favorite songs. Surviving Emma are five children and their spouses, Patricia & Dale Wingert of Mayville, Carol & Gary Cooper of Caro, Sue & Mike Dombrowski of Caro, Albert & Chris Ross of Albion, Larry Ross of Kingston; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Emma was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Elizabeth Wenzlaff, Clara Berry, William Froede and Edward Froede.
