Errol James Atkinson, Sr.

Errol James Atkinson, Sr. of Akron, age 87 passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born January 15, 1937 in Detroit, the son of the late George Clifford and Marjorie (Randles) Atkinson. Errol proudly served in the United States Army. He worked at LaPorte Industries, Inc. as a machinist for over thirty years, retiring in 2017. Errol married the love of his life, Nora Barlet on June 8, 1957, celebrating sixty-eight years of marriage this past June. They shared a passion for square dancing and loved spending time with their sons, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren. Errol did square-dance calling for twenty-six years and loved every minute of it. He was fantastic at woodworking, enjoyed working in the yard, and was so very proud of his grandchildren. Errol was a wonderful, kind-hearted person who would do anything he could to help.

Errol leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Nora; sons, Errol Atkinson, Jr. and Clifford Atkinson; granddaughters, Nora (Justin) Seabrite and Amanda (John) Foerster; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Major and Hunter and Brynlee Seabrite. In addition to his parents, Errol was preceded in death by his siblings, Aylene Noland, Edward Atkinson, Richard Atkinson, Carl Atkinson, Jan Thomas, and Carol Pauli.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. The family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of his service. Private entombment will be held at Christian Memorial Gardens West in Rochester Hills.
