Esther L. Haag

Esther L. Haag, age 91, of Kilmanagh, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018.

Esther was born June 7, 1927, in Saginaw, to Lloyd and Margaret (Wenzel) Duby. Esther found employment at the Woolworth Dime Store, then Columbia Mills, then later at the Eaton Manufacturing Plant where they made air plane parts during WWII.

She married Oscar C. Haag, of Sebewaing, on March 25, 1944, at her parents home. The bridal party included: best man, Clarence Haag, groomsman, Vern Bolzman, bridesmaid, Alice Haag, and maid of honor, Charlotte Duby. Together they were active members of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh, where they worked as grounds keepers and custodians for many years. She taught Sunday School and was active in Ladies Aid and other church functions. She drove tractor and was instrumental in the farming operation. Esther loved to travel and spend time with her family. She was very welcoming with a warm smile. Esther was a hard worker and paid attention to the details. She was also excellent at arts and crafts.

Esther is survived by her husband of 74 years, Oscar; five sons: Maurice of Gagetown, James (Linnea) of Cleveland, GA, Danny (Shirley) of Cass City, Ken (Deb) of Unionville, and Alan (Carmen) of Milford; brother, Lloyd (Margaret) Duby of Saginaw; sister Charlotte Dargie of Alma; eleven grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.

Esther is preceded in death by six brothers: Bernhard and Woodrow (both of whom served in the European Theatre during WWII and were KIA at the end of the war), Robert, Francis, Lyle and Kenneth ( Ken died as an infant); three sisters: Mary, Sally and Marion (all died as infants).

Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, from 2-8pm.

The funeral service will be Monday, December 17, 2018, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Rev. Thomas Garrison will be officiating from St. Johns Lutheran Church.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Johns Lutheran Church, Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
