Esther Luisa (Hoffman) Powell, 95 of Owendale, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 29, 2018.
Esther was born to Paul and Amanda Hoffman on March 1, 1923. She attended St. John Lutheran School in Kilmanagh, and was confirmed at St. John. Esther married Milton 'Mike' Powell on March 13, 1948. Together they raised a family of eight children – seven sons and one daughter. A good portion of her married life was spent as a homemaker. She loved to cook and bake. She also worked at Automotive Industries in Owendale for a number of years as well as General Cable in Cass City. Many a Sunday afternoon was spent at the dining room table playing Uno or Shang Hai with her kids and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends and was very interested on what was going on with everyone. Esther was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, and drove herself to services even into her 80's. She was an independent spirit and wanted to take care of herself as long as she could. Esther especially enjoyed visits with the pastors of St. Paul when she no longer was able to attend Sunday services.
Esther was preceded in death by husband, Milton 'Mike' Powell, brothers: Aaron and Albert Hoffman, sister, Marinda Molnar and grandson, Eric Powell.
She is survived sons: Leonard (Margaret) Powell, Springdale, AR; Daniel (Deborah) Powell, Appomattox, VA, Morris (Pamela) Powell, Cass City, Patrick Powell, Ft. Collins, CO, Roger Powell, Owendale, Richard (Terri) Powell, Centennial, CO, and Michael (Amy) Powell, Owendale, and daughter, Sandra Salcido (Joseph) Salcido, Owendale. Along with a deep love for her children, Esther was a proud grandmother to 28 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
