Esther Steckley, 99 of Pigeon, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe.
She was born in Boss, Missouri on October 14, 1915, and was the daughter of Henry A. and Barbara (Guengrich) Yoder. On November 27, 1938 she was united in marriage to John G. Steckley in Parnell, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1995.
Esther farmed with her husband John throughout their married life. She was a baker and a homemaker, and enjoyed being a caregiver. She was a member of Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church, Pigeon, as well as the WMSC Friendship Circle at church.
She is survived by her daughters, Norma (Lee) Tucker of Centennial, Colorado and Carolyn (Scott) Marker of Sebewaing; son-in-law, Wells Middleton of Sebewaing; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Middleton; grandson, Shane Heck; and siblings, Erma Swartzendruber, Loise Swartzendruber, and Orville, Ralph, Raymond, Jacob, and Francis Yoder.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church, with Rev. Scot Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church or Scheurer Hospital.
