Ethel Kurtansky, age 90 years, of Caro, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at her grandsons home in Monroe, Michigan. She was born on April 13, 1918 in Caro to the late John and Margaret (Karber) Hergenreder; she was a lifelong resident. The former Ethel Hergenreder married Frank Rudolph “Rudy” Kurtansky on October 26, 1940 in Caro. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1976. Mrs. Kurtansky retired from the Caro Regional Center where she had been employed as a cook. Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Johnny Cash Fan Club. Her passions were reading and love for her dog. She is survived by three grandchildren, Dale (Sandra) Kurtansky of Monroe, Kathryn (Mark) Webb of Monroe and Karyn (Rick) McIntire of Hudsonville; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, McKenzie, Mitchel, Nicholas, Laurel and Kristopher; two sisters, Donna Dombrowski of Kingston and Susan Gray of Grand Blanc, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her only child, Raymond Kurtansky; five brothers, Phillip (Bill), John (Jack), August (Gus), Andrew (Andy) and George Hergenreder; and one sister, Elizabeth Kroll. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Caro.
