Eugene Rivest

Eugene Rivest age 88, of Bay Port died Thursday, May 13, at his home while under hospice care.
He was born October 12, 1921 in Renfrew, Ont. to the late Eugene and Julia (Pigeon) Rivest and moved to the Detroit area when he was 2 years old.
On December 24, 1944, he was united in marriage to Geraldine L. Barr in Detroit. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Romulus, where they raised their family.
In 1976, Eugene retired from Great Lakes Steel where he was an electrician, that same year they moved to Bay Port. He then took a position with Active Industries, Sebewaing, retiring again in 1989.
Eugene and Jerry enjoyed traveling and camping, something they started when their first born was 6 weeks old. At first they had a tent and progressed to a motor home later on. As an electrician, he enjoyed anything electrical, which included being a model train enthusiast and a collector of HO scale trains.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jerry; five children, Jean (Del) Nichols of Caro, Gerry (Len) Sanders of Willis, Betty (Wayne) Petrie of Bay Port, Gene (Chris) Rivest of Hartsville, TN and Bob (Becky) Rivest of Deford; 23 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter and a very special friend Earl Limberger.
Preceding him in death were two daughters-in-law, Treva Rivest and Linda Rivest; a grandson, Jay Rivest; two great grandchildren, Becky Nickerson and Raymond Garcia; a great great granddaughter Clare Foreman; his brother, Clarence Rivest; two sisters, Louise Sutton and Patricia Senart and his In-laws, Ada and Dewey Barr.
Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, May 17, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton where friends may call from 2 to 9 PM Sunday and after 11:00 AM Monday.
