Evelyn Sparling

Evelyn Sparling of Caro, age 88, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Evelyn was born November 5, 1926 in Port Huron, the daughter of the late Maurice and Nellie (Osborne) Stone. She came to Caro in her younger years and was a Caro High School graduate. Following her graduation, she was employed as a student nurse and later attended Saginaw General Hospital Nursing School. The former Evelyn Stone was united in marriage with James H. Sparling on September 4, 1948 at the Caro United Methodist Church, and the couple celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage prior to Jim's death on September 2, 2006. Evelyn had been employed at both Saginaw General Hospital and the old Caro Community Hospital. She was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church and the Caro Garden Club for nearly a half-century. In addition to enjoying gardening, Evelyn was an avid bowler, gourmet cook, card player and fisherman. Evelyn is survived by four children and their spouses, Beth & John Vanda of Charlottesville, Virginia, James M. Sparling of Gaylord, Janelle & Perry Baranic of Sturgis, Michael & Susan Sparling of Sterling Heights; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her brother and his wife, Ronald & Arlene Stone of Romeo; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. In keeping with Evelyn's wishes, cremation has taken place and burial of her cremated remains will occur at a later date at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro Garden Club or the Caro United Methodist Church.
