Evelyn “Evie” Stone, age 87, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Northwood Meadows in Cass City, following a lingering illness. She was born August 11, 1920 in rural Helena, Michigan, the daughter of the late Paul & Rose (Soltman) Wehner. She was united in marriage to William Brining in 1939, at which time she moved to Caro. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1967. She was then married to Herbert Sheardy, Sr. on February 14, 1970, and he passed away on March 16, 1996. On June 5, 1999, she married William “Bill” Stone, and the couple cherished their limited time together. Evelyn was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro and enjoyed being with her family, baking cookies, gardening, knitting, dancing, traveling and playing euchre. In addition to her husband, Bill, Evelyn is survived by two sons, Douglas Brining and his wife, Janis of Bad Axe, and Robert Brining of Clio; two step-sons and three step-daughters, Herbert Sheardy, Jr. living in Tennessee, Susan Stone of Caro, Sara Stone of Indianapolis, Indiana, Robert Stone of Boston, Massachusetts, Shawne Stone of Lansing; seven grandchildren, Becky Brining of Midland, Jennifer & Daniel Hamilton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mark & Ashlie Brining and Andrew & Stephanie Brining, all of Bad Axe; five great-grandchildren, Grace, Olivia and Emma Hamilton, Audrey and Lilly Brining; one sister, Thelma Schubring of Harbor Beach and many nieces, nephews and friends at the Caro HDC Meal Site. In addition to her two husbands, Evelyn was preceded in death by an infant son, James Brining; one granddaughter, Kathryn Brining; and her siblings, Allen and Clarence Wehner, Grace Dropeski and Mildred Piotter.
