Evelyn C. Van De Voort, age 95, of Bay Port, passed away Friday morning, November 29, 2013, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe.
Evelyn was born January 19, 1918, in Pigeon, the daughter of the late Edward and Pearl (Notter) Diefenbach. She was a graduate of Pigeon High School. She loved attending auction sales and is a past member of the Pigeon Historical Society. She has won many awards for her recipes and short stories.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Dale Van De Voort of Lakeland, FL, Terry (Donna) Van De Voort of Pigeon, Pat (fiancé Doris Dauer) Van De Voort of Fairgrove and Sally (James) Fisher of Saginaw; sister, Jesse Schweitzer; grandchildren: Michael Malcomb, Valerie (Jason) Yatch, Brian Van De Voort, Diana Van De Voort and Teri Leigh Napieralski; great grandchildren: Tori, Belle, Alec, Kendal, Ava and Alexis; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; son, Keith "Pete" Vandevoort; brothers: Kenneth, William, Howard and LaMont Diefenbach; and sister, Vernita Kuhl.
Visitation is Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-8pm.
The funeral service is Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.
Burial will be at New Bay Port Cemetery.
