Fern Helen Young

Fern Helen Young of Fairgrove, age 87, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at her home. Fern was born October 15, 1934 in Gilford, the daughter of the late Stanley and Eleanor (Yokuty) Streeter. She was united in marriage with Ernest Young on September 14, 1952 in Mikado and he preceded her in death on June 3, 2003. Fern had been employed at Country Villa as an adult care supervisor for many years, worked for Hydro-Mat in the shipping department and served as shop steward and bargaining supervisor. She was a member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church and Better Life Church of Morehead, Kentucky where she served as an infant rocker. Fern was very patriotic and loved the American flag, cruising town, and being in the Christmas parade. She was "Park Sheriff" for Mulberry Park, and although she loved her family dearly, she was "Grandma Fern" to all of Fairgrove. Fern is survived by two sons and spouses, Douglas & Deborah Young of Fairgrove, Steven & Janet Young of Salt Lick, Kentucky; grandchildren and spouses, Kristin Young and Jawone Ray, Megan & Alan Jones, Melinda & Jeremy Lootens, Amy & Travis Black, Steven & Sandra Young, Justin & Dianne Young, Suzanne Young, Lisa Young, Heather Young, Bree Webster; twenty great-grandchildren; and was "Grandma Fern" to many special grandchildren; and special niece, Debbie Lawson aka "little Debbie" to Fern. In addition to her parents and husband, Fern was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and infant great-granddaughter, Jessica McRae. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church with Rev. Philomena Ofori-Nipaah officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove.
