Florence Swider

Florence Swider, of Port Austin, died October 14, 2008, her 85th birthday, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe while under hospice care.

Florence was born October 14, 1923 in Clymer, Pennsylvania to the late Telford and Eva G. (Markowicz) Swider. She moved with her family to the Detroit area while she was still young. During World War II she worked at U.S. Rubber. She retired from the Macomb County Community College Library. Having had a vacation home outside Port Austin for many years, she moved there permanently 25 years ago with her two brothers, whom she had lived with her entire life.

She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and a volunteer at the Huron Medical Center gift shop. She enjoyed playing cards with friends.

Florence is survived by her brothers Edward “Adam” and Lou of Port Austin, and sisters Ceclia and her husband Tom O’Toole of Georgia and Maryann Cunningham of Texas; and nine nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday, October 20th at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, with Fr. Ken Yaroch presiding.

Visitation will be 2:00 - 6:00 PM Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and from 10:00 AM Monday until the time of the service at church. There will be a scripture service at 6:00 PM Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the St. Roch Building Fund.
