Frances Violet (Jessen) Garian, 99, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019 at the Pines of Clarkston.
She was born May 31, 1919 in Lakefield, Minnesota. Her mother, Karin (Wallin) Jessen was born in Sweden, came to the United States, lived in Minnesota and married Carl Jessen. Three sisters and four brothers preceded Frances in death. She married George Garian (b. 1909, d. 1991) and they were married almost 50 years.
Frances was the matriarch and centerpiece of our family. “Granny” was beloved because of her kindness, personality, wit, wisdom, straightforwardness, and one-liners. We appreciated her chocolate beet cake, carrot cake, brownies and other goodies. “As I say,” Granny, you will be deeply missed and very fondly remembered by all who knew you but most especially by Karen (Jim) Tropea and Rick (Judy) Garian. Loving grandmother of Jennifer (Gary) Sobczynski, Jill (Victor) Galvez, Jake (Gina) Tropea, Juliet (Sean) Murphy, Kimberly (Jim) Zaguroli, Lisa (Don) Blevins, and Kris Garian. Adoring great grandmother of Nicholas, Jack, Emma, Tatiana, Galileo, Seamus, Liam, Olivia, Mia, Alexander, Katrina, Dan, Tyler, Abby, Jake and Ben. Dearest aunt of many nieces and nephews. We will play Scrabble, Pinochle, and Shang Hai in your honor and raise an “elegante” glass of frosty cold beer as we toast you on your 100th birthday this May.
A memorial luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Cherry Creek Golf Club , 52000 Cherry Creek Drive, Shelby Twp, MI 48316. Please RSVP by February 8th to jimandkarent@comcast.net or 248-656-7038.
Memories may be shared on the Champagne Funeral Chapel website. Memorial donations may be sent to Erik’s Ranch and Retreats (non-profit for autism), 3420 Heritage Drive, Edina, MN 55435 www.eriksranch.org
