Frances E. Souden, age 94, of Cass City passed away Wednesday, September 4, at Crittenton Hospital, Rochester.
She was born on July 16, 1919 to the late Fredrick and Ethel (Vance) Fulcher in Cass City, where she resided until the age of 9, then the family moved to the Pontiac area.
Frances was raised cooking and baking alongside of her mother. She worked for the Kingsley Inn of Bloomfield Hills; she was lead cook at Kingwood Boarding School of Cranbrooke and finished her career as a head cook and baker at Bloomfield Hills High School.
She was united in marriage to Edward (Mickey) Souden on January 11, 1936. Together they had six children. Frances and Mickey retired to Cass City in 1980. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1997.
Those who loved and cherished her, knew Frances as Mom, Nana, Grandma and The Admiral. She loved to bake, read, play cards and bingo.
Surviving are her children, James (Marion) Souden of Waterford, Dean (special friend, Sherry) Souden of Stevensville, Michael (Alice) Souden of Waterford, Mary Jane (Jay) Motz of Pigeon, Donald (Cathy) Souden of Clarkston; daughter-in-law, Mary Louise Souden of Pontiac. She was grandma to fourteen grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her son, Jerry Souden; grandson, Lynn Souden; siblings and their spouses, Dorothy (Frank) O’Connor; Vera “Peg” (George) Fisher, Fred (Agnes) Fulcher and Dean (Yvonne) Fulcher.
Home was always home to many others besides the Souden kids. “Mom” always had enough room and food for anyone. Her children can be a witness to at least five other people who lived at our house for a period of time, slept in the beds and shared a table of food.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, September 9, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Pillow, pastor will officiate with burial at Elkland Twp. Cemetery, Cass City.
