Frank A. Schreyer, Jr. of Caro, Michigan, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, July 13, 2025. He was born March 3, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Frank A. Schreyer, Sr. (Vienna, Austria), and Abigail (Jones) of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
Frank attended Broward High School in Hollywood, Florida; Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado; and the University of Florida, Gainesville. A Vietnam-Era Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving eight years of active duty, Frank retired from AT&T with thirty years of service out of Tampa, Florida. He also served on various Boards of Directors, including churches in Unionville and Caro.
Frank was well known in Caro for enjoying a cup of coffee almost anywhere he went, always lending utmost respect, a solid handshake, and tasteful humor. A true gentleman, Frank enjoyed his love of sailing, in later years on Saginaw Bay, and in younger years, sailing and SCUBA in the Gulf of America, not far from MacDill Air Force Base. Frank was an avid Ham Radio operator and designed and operated several church sound systems. His knowledge of the world was broad, frequently offering inspiring conversation and perspective wherever he traveled.
Frank's greatest joy came from his family. He was a proud and loving grandfather who never missed a chance to teach, support, or share good conversation at the dinner table. His spirit was a unique blend of candor and deep respect, grounded in wisdom.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-one years, Anne (Dehmel) Schreyer of Unionville; his daughter and caregiver, Kathryn (Terrance Wagner); grandson, Jarrett Poppy; step-grandchildren, Collin Wagner and Kendra Wagner; and many friends. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death, circa 1936, by an older sister.
Frank’s Celebration of Life service will be officiated by Jim Leaman and is planned for Saturday, August 16, at 11:00 a.m. followed by dinner table conversation at Caro Presbyterian Church. Military honors will be afforded by the U.S. Air Force and Caro American Legion Post # 7. The family will be present to receive visitors at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan with a committal service at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to GideonCard at SendtheWord.org.
