Fred William Baker

Fred William Baker of Caro, age 90, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025 at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Frankenmuth. Fred was born February 17, 1935 in Detroit, the son of the late Jesse and Anne (Lake) Baker. In September of 1956, Fred married the former Darlene Clark in Hazel Park and the couple cherished over sixty-four years of marriage before Darlene's passing in 2021. Fred worked for the United States Postal Services as a parts manager, retiring in 1990 after over thirty-five years of dedicated service. Fred found great joy and tranquility in the outdoors. He loved watching the deer that wandered through his property and spending peaceful hours by the pond, surrounded by nature.

Left to cherish Fred's memory are three children, Gail Leach and her husband, Craig, Kathy Powers, and Brian Baker; grandchildren, Matthew Powers, Stephanie DePriest-Powers, and Koda Baker; three step-grandchildren, Tatiana, Adrienne, and Elijah; and a niece, Catherine Slagle. In addition to his parents and wife, Fred was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Edward Baker.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Paul McNett officiating. Private burial will take place at East Dayton Cemetery in Caro. Fred's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
