Frederick J. Busch, 78, of Caseville, died Saturday, January 26, 2019 after having heart surgery at McLaren Bay Region Hospital in Bay City.
Fred was born March 4, 1940 in Harbor Beach to the late Roman and Olive (Diehl) Busch. He graduated from Our Lady of Lake Huron High School in 1958. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1958 and spent four years serving mostly aboard a submarine in the North Atlantic. After being discharged in 1962 he moved to Bay City where he was first employed by, and then became a partner in, Rush Stationers and Printers.
He married Gloria A. Essenmacher on September 18, 1965 in Bay City; she preceded him in death October 27, 2015. He married Judith Peterson June 6, 2018.
Upon retiring from the office supply and printing business in 1992 he moved to Sand Point and worked as a sales consultant for Wade-Trim Engineering until 2005. After his second retirement he was appointed to the Caseville Twp. Planning Commission where he served for 7 years. He was elected to the Caseville Twp. Board in 2012 and was appointed Caseville Twp Supervisor in 2015 until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish where he served on Parish Council and the Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1981, first in Bay City then transferring to Council 8042 and Assembly 2372 in Caseville. He enjoyed sailing, golf, card playing and visiting and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Judith Peterson; daughter Barbara (David) Siegrist of Jackson; grandsons Kennedy and Daniel Wilson; granddaughters Hope Bos, Karen Siegrist, and Janine (Ken) LaVoy; great-grandchildren Emma, Isaac, Luke, Anthony, Matthew and Jacelyn; brothers Gary (Joanne) Busch and David (Debra) Busch; sisters Clara (Richard) Polson, Audrey (Del) Schubring, and Janice (Kevin) Fowler; sister-in-law Doreen Busch; step-sons Jeff (Mary Ann) Peterson and Garth Peterson; and step-grandchildren Joe, Andy, Grant and Sarah.
He was preceded in death by his son Gregory and brother Charles.
A funeral mass will be 11:00am Friday, February 1st at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Pare presiding. Urn interment will be in Our Lady of Lake Huron Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8pm Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 5:00pm Thursday.
