Frederick W. Cooley was born on April 18, 1924 on a farm in Grant Township, near Owendale, Michigan. Fred passed away peacefully on October 3, 2011, with his family nearby. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-four years, Charlotte, as well as by his two brothers, Arthur and John. He is survived by his two sons, Fred (Jan) of Cary, North Carolina and Larry of Okemos, Michigan, along with his grandchildren, Sierra, Brent and Matthew, and his sisters, Ina Greenfield and Sarah Angel.
Fred enjoyed his life on the family farm and, with the exception of his service in the Air Force, lived his entire life on his farm. He was active in the community as a longtime member of the school board, as well as many years as the manager of the local Little League baseball team. In addition to farming, he was the mail carrier for almost thirty years and was well-known throughout the area.
A service celebrating Fred's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, 7436 Paul Street, Pigeon, Michigan, with Pastor John Heim of the Owendale United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. (prior to the service).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huron County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 56, Bad Axe, MI 48413, designating the contribution for the Cooley Family Scholarship Fund (for information on the fund go to www.huroncounty.com/foundation).
