Frederick C. Smith

Frederick C. Smith of Lapeer, formerly of Cass City, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at McLaren - Lapeer Region at the age of 78. Fred was born July 29, 1941 in Cass City, the son of the late Lee & Celia (Evans) Smith and graduated from Cass City High School with the class of 1959. He was employed with General Motors Fisher Body in Pontiac for the majority of his career and retired from Orion Assembly after thirty years of service to the company. Fred was united in marriage with the former Nancy Jean Kelly on October 26, 1968 in Linkville and celebrated forty years of marriage before her passing on July 17, 2009. He was happy to be home watching television, but also enjoyed tending to his pets and yard. In Fred's younger years, he liked horses, camping, Euchre, and held an appreciation for antique cars until the end. Left to cherish his memory are two children, David Smith of Muskegon, Kelly Smith of Lapeer; one brother, Donald Lee Smith of Cass City; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Fred was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Hendrick. Fred's family will gather with friends on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. A private burial will take place at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro on Wednesday.
