Frederick F. "Fred" Southworth

Frederick F. Southworth of Caro, age 88, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Covenant Health Care - Harrison in Saginaw. Fred was born March 1, 1934 in Caro, the son of the late Frank and Lillian (Darbee) Southworth. He attended Caro High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army. Fred worked at various trucking companies, driving mail from Saginaw to Alpena, motor freight for Maiers Motor Freight, fuel for Metcalf & Schrader, and finally retiring from LaJoie & Sons driving truck. Throughout his life, Fred enjoyed woodworking, fishing, tending to his garden, and canning - he loved to can the vegetables he would grow each year. Another favorite pastime of Fred's was cooking maple syrup with his brothers, Ed and Bert. Fred is survived by his siblings, Leone Wolfgang, Betty Phillips, and Bert Southworth; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Fred was welcomed home to heaven by his siblings, Paula Ott, Ed Southworth, and Margaret Waasdorp. In keeping with Fred's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Inurnment will be held at Ellington Township Cemetery at a later date. Fred's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon.
