G. Velja Cullen

G. Velja Cullen, 95, of Caseville, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Ascension Macomb Hospital in Warren.

Velja was born July 6, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Charles and Hedwig (Gustafsson) Tabone. She moved to Detroit in 1936 and graduated from Southeastern High School in 1945. She married William G. Cullen September 17, 1947 in Ironwood, Michigan; he preceded her in death June 30, 1991.

Velja raised her family in Detroit while working at Garage Door Mart, retiring in 1978. After retirement she moved to Caseville where her family had been vacationing since 1948. She was Caseville Twp Assessor for 8 years. She enjoyed traveling and spending winters in California and Florida.

Velja is survived by her sons Michael of Allegan and Brian (Patricia) of Warren; grandchildren Elizabeth, Elissa, Arwen, Fred, Erin, and Ian; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; and sister Donna (Bud) McCormick of Caseville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Shawn.

No services are planned. Memorials may be made to the Caseville Historical Society. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
