Gale William Steffen

Gale William Steffen of Caro, age 87, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Medilodge of Cass City, following a lingering illness. Gale was born January 25, 1928 in Unionville, the son of the late Louis and Rose (Buchman) Steffen, and was a 1947 graduate of Caro High School and a proud member of the football team. He was united in marriage with the former Patricia Miller on September 9, 1950, and she survives him. The family moved to Ubly in 1965 when Gale began work with Thumb Electric as a lineman, retiring in 1993 as a supervisor after nearly thirty years of service. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe until he and Patricia returned to Caro in 1999 and joined St. Paul Lutheran Church. Gale was a member of IBEW Local 17 and enjoyed gardening and bowling in his younger years. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over sixty-five years, Patricia Steffen of Caro; six children and their spouses, Jae Gale Steffen of Caro, Ginger Jo Rozak of Bay City, Lee & Denise Steffen of Caro, Michael Stanley Steffen of Lapeer, Kathleen Rose & David Murphy of Brighton, Patrick William Steffen of Lapeer; six grandchildren, Jamie Zientek and her husband, Matthew, of Bay City, C.J. Childers of Harbor Beach, Sara VanderVeen of Dorr, Aaron Steffen of East Pointe, Nicholas Murphy and Ethan Murphy of Brighton; four great-grandchildren, Lia, Ava and Elliot VanderVeen and Winston Zientek; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gale was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Clare and Harlan Steffen; two sisters, Creola Stock and Aline Smith. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro officiating.
