Gary L. Damm, age 58 years, of Deckerville Road, Caro, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Caro Community Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on April 28, 1948 in Pigeon to the late Eittle and Mable (Schaaf) Damm. Gary attended the Akron-Fairgrove Schools; he later joined the Unites States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He is a life member of the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. Gary worked for Grey Iron Foundry in Saginaw, retiring in 1992 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing as well as gambling, going on many trips to the casino. Building and repairing things, especially out of wood, was a hobby of his also. Gary married the former Janice Elaine (Johnson) Demetrius on September 14, 2000 in Caro. He was a member of the Lutheran faith. In addition to his wife, Janice, he is survived by two daughters, Tara Damm of Caro, Shawn (Felix) Castillo of Bay City; two sons, Daryl and Derek Damm of Caro; two step-children, Keith (Vicki) Johnson of Caro, Dawn Johnson of Ubly; two grandchildren, Kendra and Trevor Castillo; eleven brothers and sisters, Devere (Loanne) Damm, Lloyd (Delores) Damm, Martin (Delores) Damm, Clayton (Faith) Damm, Kenneth (Connie) Damm, Dorothy (Bob) Putnam, Margaret Turner, Joyce Hecht, Evelyn (Ron) Sharko, Lillian Benson and Merry Lou (Tom) Kusant. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Damm; and one brother, Richard Damm. Keeping with the familys wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation at the Collon Funeral Home. Burial will be at Almer Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
