Gary Lee Sy, Sr.

Gary Lee Sy, Sr., age 72, of Unionville, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City.

Gary was born June 4, 1944, in Unionville, to the late Melvin and Frieda (Lehman) Sy. He graduated from Unionville High School. He then joined the U.S. Airforce and served four years. On June 22, 1968, he married Betty Ballard at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. He worked many years at Saginaw Steering Gear (General Motors). In his younger years he enjoyed coaching USA junior high and junior varsity football and was a volunteer firefighter for Unionville. He enjoyed attending all of USA Schools sporting events, bowling, golfing, deer hunting, gardening and yard work. He was a member of the National American Legion.

Gary is survived by his wife, Betty Sy; children: Gary (Sonya) Sy, Jr. of Sebewaing, Jeffrey Sy of Chicago, IL, and Scott (Susan) Sy of Unionville; grandchildren: Kayla and Bailey Sy, Jessica Smith and James Smith, III; great grandchildren: Adrianna Simpson and Za'Mya Smith; siblings: Carol (Ed) Kata, Jim (Sue) Sy, Roger Sy, David Sy, and Connie Sy; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, from 2-8pm.

Memorial donations may be made to any USA Schools sporting programs.
